The Geometry Group focuses on the rendering, modeling, simplification, and compression of geometric models. Our research relies upon tools and theories in mathematics, computational geometry, and perception.

Model creation remains a time and human resource intensive task. One of our focuses in the Geometry Group is how to automatically generate models from point sets, polygonal data sets, and medical data sets. The models we generate include polygonal, implicit, volumetric, and image-based models.

Digital models may be large and unweildy. Often, they include degeneracies and non-manifolds. Several projects in the Geometry Group include algorithms to clean these degeneracies and simplify the digital models.

Transmission of large models is an open area of research in computer graphics. Research in the Geometry group to address this problem include simplification techniques which speed up transmission and compression of polygonal models.

Our work also spans other areas of computer graphics including computer vision and animation. Several projects in the Geometry Group are collaborations with the Vision and Animation research groups.
