HIV in India is a widely prevalent and complex disease. Treatment is an issue for the economically disadvantaged for financial and social reasons. When designing technology in this context it is important to remember not just the technical requirements but also the effects of stigma and other such contextual factors. NGOs play a key role in the dissemination of awareness and treatment. Thus the outreach workers at the NGO are an important aspect of connecting with the PLHIV. This project is the result of ethnographic research work done over summer '16 and spring '17. |
Jill Watson and AskJill are AI-powered Q&A agents. Jill Watson, currently deployed in four classes, serves as a virtual TA that answers student questions related to course syllabus and schedule. It's goal is to enhance teacher presence in the class. AskJill, evolved from Jill Watson, is an artificial intelligence explanation agent that can answer questions about the domain, operation and functionality of other AI systems as outlined in their user guides. It is currently deployed in an AI-based interactive learning environment VERA (Virtual Ecological Research Assistant). |
Georgia Tech and the Human Interface Branch of NASA partnered together to find a way to detect astronauts' body positions in space. In the zero-gravity space environment, it becomes difficult to monitor tasks that lead to repetitive stress injuries or fatigue. Monitoring movement would help NASA pinpoint high-stress actions and make adjustments to corresponding mission tasks. We developed an unobtrusive, textile-based system to monitor astronauts' arm position in real time, in zero gravity, and without the constraints of camera-based motion-input devices. |
