Transportation: Two buses will run continuously from the Hyatt Regency Hotel (Harris Street entrance) beginning at 5:45 pm (approx. 15 minute intervals). Final departure from Georgia Tech will be at 9:30 pm.

The GVU Center will open its doors to attendees of the CHI '97 conference with an evening of demos in the GVU Lab. Your host will be GVU Director Jarek Rossignac, an internationally known researcher in the field of 3D graphics. We'll have a dazzling display of research in graphics, visualization and usability. A sampling of research areas includes:

  • Animation: applying control algorithms to physically realistic models of humans performing athletic maneuvers
  • Future Computing Environments: developing a culture and infrastructure on campus for the investigation, prototyping and construction of computing environments for the future.
  • Information Visualization: visualization of the execution of parallel virtual machine applications, visualization of parallel and distributed systems, hypertools for monitoring information resources
  • Medical Informatics: biomedical imaging and visualization; modeling, representing, visualizing and interpreting the information associated with complex structures and dynamic processes
  • Scientific Visualization: the interactive display of data through information, scientific or engineering visualization; computational steering and multivariate analysis
  • Virtual Environments: use of computer graphics for virtual reality including projects such as VR exposure therapy for treatment of phobias, a VR gorilla exhibit for Zoo Atlanta, and evaluating the importance of multi-sensory input on learning and the sense of presence in virtual environments
  • Human Factors: the effects of aging on learning and use of new technologies
  • Information Design and Technology: multimedia design and production, cultural studies, rhetoric, art and performance theory, electronic pedagogy
  • IMAGINE Lab: architectural presentation systems, 3D metropolitan models Space is limited. Two buses will run continuously from the Hyatt Regency (Harris Street entrance) to Georgia Tech beginning at 5:45 pm (approx. 15 minute intervals).
