Many existing graphical datasets are too large to be used effectively in applications requiring either remote access or realtime processing and display. More efficient representations and better algorithms for displaying, compressing, and exploring graphical models will be necessary to manage such complexity in applications including e-commerce, engineering, medicine, geographic information systems, and entertainment. The GVU Center has several reseach projects developing multiresolution
representations, compression schemes, and other tools to address this problem.
