Alexander Kirlik is an Assistant Professor in the
School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, with an adjunct
appointments in the School of Psychology and the College of Computing.
He was a Systems Engineer prior to earning his Ph.D. from
Ohio State University
in 1989. His dissertation, The Organization of
Perception and Action in Complex Control Skills, received the
George Briggs Award from the
American Psychological Association, Division of
Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychologists, for the best
dissertation of 1989. He spent two summers as a visiting scholar at
Stanford University and joined
Georgia Tech in 1989; he became a member of
the GVU Center in 1995. His current research interests concern
understanding the psychological mechanisms underlying skilled human activity,
and ecological approaches to understanding activity and guiding
design.
