of the Doctoral
Program, College of Architecture--is an architectural researcher who is
experienced in environmental programming, design and evaluation. She has
been the principal investigator of a number of projects which exploring
the links between physical design variables and behavioral and educational
outcomes in residential, institutional, and commercial environments. Dr.
Wineman's research interests include museum and exhibit design, the design
of work settings to enhance productivity, and design for special
populations. She has been working on the development of computer-based
tools to support design decision-making, including VR applications for
enhancing design and design education. She was a participant in the
Conceptual Design Space project to develop an object-oriented designer's
toolkit for interactively creating and modifying designs from within the
virtual space, and co-directs, with Larry Hodges, the Virtual Gorilla
Exhibit project to develop an experiential educational tool to teach
school children about gorillas and their world. Dr. Wineman recently
completed a project on Children's Zoo Design funded through the
National Endowment for the Arts. Recent publications include
two articles in
Curator, "Spatial/visual Properties of Zoo Exhibition" and
"Lost In The Zoo: Designing For Preschool And Teen Audiences In Zoos."
