Randy Bohrer
Senior Research Associate
College of Architecture
|
Randy is a senior researcher in IMAGINE (Interactive Media Architecture
Group in Education), a laboratory in the College of Architecture. Randy's
interests are located at the intersection of architecture and
computing. On the one hand, he applies computer visualization
technology to the needs of the architecture, engineering and
construction (AEC) community via the electronic modeling and
presentation of architecture; on the other, he builds alternative
electronic structures (i.e., web sites) that replace conventional
architecture.
Randy received a Ph.D. from Yale in Literature in 1976. His interests
were initially in non-book forms of communication and interaction,
ranging from oral epics to the then new genre of video games. In
previous career re-incarnations he has designed video games, developed
corporate computer-based research information systems and served as
Georgia Tech's chief Corporate Liaison Officer - a wonderfully ambiguous
job and title. In 1994 he became a practical expert in cognitive
disabilities after experiencing a stroke. He is particularly interested
in using the web to enhance access for special populations.
Among the web sites he has been responsible for developing are Apple
Computer's Atlanta and the Games Olympic site and the Barrier-Free
Education site, a site dedicated to providing educational resources to
teachers of students with disabilities.
