St. Paul Release (Beta v0.8e)

January 17 1997

Changes from the Minneapolis (Beta v0.8d) release

A list of changes and bug fixes from the previous beta relese is available. We also have a page with information on contributions of extensions to the system sent in by developers external to the SubArctic team, as well as helpful bug-fix tips sent in by SubArctic users via the bugs mailing list (see the mailing lists section on the SubArctic Home Page for information on the available mailings lists and how to subscribe).

Downloading the System

The latest released version of the system (Beta v0.8e) is available with both source and executable from:

http://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_release_v08e.zip(1,955,359 bytes) or
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_release_v08e.tar.gz(1,626,373 bytes) or
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_release_v08e.tar.Z(2,629,399 bytes)

You can also download the source (.java and .html) without the executables, for speedier trasfer, as:

http:// www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_source_v08e.zip(1,134,026 bytes) or
http ://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_source_v08e.tar.gz(875,017 bytes) or
http: //www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_source_v08e.tar.Z(1,531,075 bytes)

An uncompressed zip archive file suitable for copying to your server (for use in a Netscape "archive=" tag) is also available from:

http://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ui/sub_arctic/sa_archive_v08e.zip(492,323 bytes)

This includes all of the system (except the test or demo_apps packages) in executable form. You may want to create a subset archive with just the classes you need in order to improve download time for your applet. Prepared archives for common subsets may be available in a future release.

This is the second public beta release. There have been two prior limited releases of the system to about 20 initial test users, and many internal releases. There has also been one public beta release, the Minneapolis (beta 0.8d) release.

If you are going to be doing any programming with the system you will want unpack the release files in a directory named in your CLASSPATH. Once you have unpacked the files you should be able to move to the sub_arctic/test directory and load one of the .html files into Appletviewer or Netscape to verify that everything works.

Terms of Use

Terms for use of the system are described in detail on the usage policy page. The short story is that the system is available free with only minor limitations.

Documentation

Documentation for the system can be found starting at the documentation page, which includes a link to the latest documentation in javadoc (HTML) format.

Previous Releases

Previous (alpha and beta) releases are not available at this time (and not recommended for use).

Planned Future Releases

The next major release will be "Winnipeg" (v0.9) which we expect next month. Winnipeg will be another beta release and will reflect feedback from this second public beta release.
