- As in previous surveys, most web service providers do not allow advertising on their site (68.0%). For those that do, the largest group charge less than $50 per week (16.1%).
Factors Affecting Pricing

- The project size (76.9%) and complexity (75.0%) are factors which affect pricing for most service providers. Complexity and maintenance play a more prominent role in pricing for European firms than in firms in the US. The size of the customer is not a factor for most service providers (25.4%).
How Long In Business

- There seems to be a slight slowdown in the number of new web service providers: 27.6% report being in business for less than a year compared to 35.8% six months ago. The same percentage as in the Sixth survey, however, report being in business for over four years (29.7%).
Number Of Customers

- The largest category of firms has over 100 customers (39.3%) while the second largest category has 1-10 customers (30.7%). In general, firms vary widely in the number of employees and customers they have.
Number Of Employees

- The largest category of web service providers have between one and ten employees (58.9%). Europeans have more mid-sized firms (11-50 employees) while Americans tend to have either large or small firms.
Pricing For Page Creation And Design

- The largest category of respondents report that their firm uses a custom pricing scheme (31.7%) which is consistent with previous surveys. 14.9% charge on a per-page basis, 8.6% charge per site, and 27.1% charge per hour.
Pricing For Script Creation

- As with page creation, the largest category of respondents report using custom pricing schemes (36.8%). 10.9% charge per script, 4.0% charge per site, and 27.2% charge by the hour.
Provide Domain Registration Service

- The majority of web service providers do provide domain registration service (58.4%). This percentage is up from the Sixth survey where just over half (52.5%) provided this service.
Types Of Services Offered

- Most firms offer page design (76.3%) and consulting services (67.6%). More than half also offer scripting, disk space, and other services. Firms in Europe seem to offer more services, in general, than firms in the US.
