Online Seeking And Purchasing

grow. Over 70% of respondents report using the web for seeking information
about hardware and software over $50 compared to 66% in the Sixth survey.
Respondents are more likely to seek information on more expensive products
(over $50) but most choose to buy offline. The most popular item to purchase
over the web is software under $50 with 36.2% having done this. Other
than hardware and software, the two most popular items to seek information
on and to purchase over the web are travel arrangements and books or
magazines.
Seeking Across Mediums
Graphs: [Location]- Newspapers and magazines are where most respondents turn when they are
seeking information for an upcoming purchase. When it comes to hardware
and software, however, online information seeking has almost reached the
same popularity as newspapers and magazines. In almost all cases, online
information seeking is used more often than direct mail (one notable
exception is clothing/shoes). For travel information, online sources are
used more than any other.
