Corporate & Functions

Corporate & Functions (C&F) is the backbone of BP, providing essential, specialist advice to all areas of the company. Working in an environment based on collaborative teamwork, you will help us make key strategic decisions, put the right people in the right places and ensure we make the most of the digital technology that connects our businesses and our people.

As our corporate center, C&F includes large functional teams such as Finance, IT & Human Resources. C&F also includes professionals working in other areas such as Legal, Procurement, Shipping and HSSE.

IT & Services (IT&S) is one of the largest of the group functions touching every part of BP’s business:

• More than 3,500 BP employees and contractors

• Around 4,500 managed service providers

• Presence in over 50 countries

• Hubs in Bochum, Chicago, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, London and Singapore

IT&S provides world-class IT, telecommunication services and systems and is the home of the Group’s Digital Security team who support the Group in managing the Group’s cyber security threat. We also host crisis and business continuity planning for BP.


Your Development – Digital Security

BP has a reliance on computer and networks technology across its core businesses and functions, including interactions with customers, JV partners and suppliers. This combined with a step change in the motivation and capability of cyber threats against BP, has raised cyber security to one of the company’s Highest Priority Group Risks.

Digital Security provides an intelligence led approach to defending against cyber attacks. Digital Security works in partnership with all areas in BP to protect BP’s information, systems, assets and people against current and emerging cyber security threats.

It is essential the defenses to protect BP's information, systems, people and assets adapts to counter these threats and to ensure BP’s digital assets remain available, secure and reliable to deliver business services.

Our Counter Threat Unit in Houston operates 24/7 all year round monitoring and responding to information security threats. We are engaged in the cyber equivalent of an arms race. Every day, the organizations and individuals who threaten our information security develop new attack methods, while we work just as diligently to defend ourselves, our employees, customers and other stakeholders.

Internship Program

As a first step, nothing prepares you better for a career with us than an internship. Our internship program provides hands-on, career-specific experience working full-time, usually during summer breaks. You will work on real projects that deliver tangible benefits and measurable results. You will experience genuine teamwork, and work alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues, while you work on live projects and operations, using the latest equipment and technology. Summer internships last 12 weeks, usually taking place in the summer before your final academic year.

All interns are supported by a line manager who sets your objectives with you and ensures you have the training and equipment to succeed. A detailed and focused appraisal process is essential to ensure that you get the most from your experience. Additionally, you will also be assigned a mentor/buddy who helps network you across BP, discusses your progress and can address any questions you have. Depending on your performance, you could be offered a full-time job following the end of your internship. The internship program also provides many opportunities for networking, social events and professional development.






Two Digital Security Counter Threat Unit Analysts positions are available in 2015. You will work in roles that focus on the following to effectively and efficiently support our business:

You will be involved in supporting the monitoring of multiple security technologies to detect IT security incidents.

• You will follow detailed operational process and procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate, and assist in remediation of critical information security incidents

• You will be involved in evaluating and investigating detected security events to determine if they represent significant security incidents and require further response

• Support investigations and remediation activity in response to incidents and other activity.

• You will be involved in additional project work that will be defined prior to the internship.

• You will also have the opportunity to spend time with other Digital Security teams to gain an understanding of the broader services provided.




Must have cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or higher

Pursuing Bachelors or Master’s degree

• Majoring in Information Security or Information Technology discipline with specific interest in security operations, incident management, intrusion detection, firewall deployment, and security event analysis

• Must have the ability to learn, grasp, and understand new technologies

• Must have a general view of the current state of information security threats and vulnerabilities across the globe as well as within a large multi-national corporation

• Must have ability to follow detailed operational process and procedures to appropriately analyse, escalate, and assit in remediation of critical information secruity incidents.

• Junior/Senior classification

• Graduating in December 2015 through May 2016

• Ability to work in a face paced high-pressure environment

• Must be able to work well in a team
