Entry Level Power Supply Firmware Engineer


HP’s Industry Standard Server (ISS) group is seeking a highly dynamic and motivated entry level firmware

engineer to join the Power Supply team. You will work in a tightly collaborative team within a fast-paced

stimulating environment to develop the next generation of HP power solutions, including power

supplies, battery backup, UPS, and power distribution units. To support the rapid and widespread

growth of computing worldwide, HP develops industry-leading solutions to maximize the efficiency and

utilization of power in its server, storage, and networking products. Your fresh perspectives and

innovative ideas will facilitate the embodiment of these solutions into new power architectures and

firmware. This position is especially appropriate for recent college graduates with career growth

• Develops specifications, test plans, and test programs to verify the firmware interactions within

a power solution and overall computing system

• Performs verification testing on new product development samples; identifies, logs, and debugs

issues observed

• Develops code and firmware features for power management, enhancements, updates, and

changes in a power subsystem.

• Develops understanding of and relationship with internal system teams, ODM power supply

development teams, and component vendors.

• Participates as a member of project team(s) with other firmware engineers, hardware engineers

and HP partners to develop reliable, cost effective, and high quality power solutions.

• Participates in project design reviews and development meetings.


Education and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer

Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent

Knowledge and Skills

• Experience and/or familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, current/voltage

probes, power meters, dataloggers, sources, loads, power supplies, soldering/de-soldering, and

mechanical tools

• Experience and/or familiarity with embedded microcontrollers such as Microchip, Texas

Instruments, Freescale, ST, Maxim, or Silicon Labs

• Experience and/or familiarity with firmware programming languages including LabVIEW, C, C++,

Assembly or equivalent

• Experience and/or familiarity with communication protocols including I2C, GPIB, Serial, UART,

SPI, RS-232, RS-485, CAN

• Power supply, electronics, and/or hardware development experience is helpful

• Good analytical and problem solving skills

• Understanding of firmware and hardware design principles.

• Understanding of basic testing, coding, release processes, and debugging procedures

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language

Work Authorization

• Must have a legal right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
