Qualifications:

This position is a technical position in the IT Department as part of the Career Path Process. The technical career path is for employees interested in an individual contributor role, who want to work with other team members to ensure a project's success. Two positions are available. 

Position will be filled at the Band B/C level (Project Engineer, Sr. Project Engineer, Assoc Systems Engineer or Systems Engineer) depending upon the successful candidate's skill set and experience. 

Position is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, administration, and support of highly available, highly performing, cost effective in memory Data Cache solutions in the open systems environment. This is primarily Oracle Coherence and Neo4J, but other in memory or NoSQL database solutions may also be utilized. 


Required experience/skill sets include: 

Experience with administrating large highly available data stores in an enterprise environment 

Oracle Coherence Database Administration 

Programming skills in Java and XML 

Ability to work well with the various development groups within Union Pacific 

Strong management/leadership skills 

Strong technical background 

Strong communications skills (both oral and written) 


Desired Experience/Skill Sets include: 

Neo4j or other graph database administration 

Experience with large RDBMS environments, and distributed computing environments

  • Problem Solving: Must be able to solve problems where a precedent has been set. Must be able to understand and integrate solutions in a multi-systems environment, providing a seamless look to the customer.

  • Business Knowledge: Requires basic working knowledge of at least one UP business process. Incumbent can explain how his/her component fits into the business process.

Required Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems or related field. Strong applicable experience (a minimum of 6 years data administration knowledge) may be taken into account in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • 3 year(s) experience in Information Technology including required experience/skill set noted in Basic Purpose of Position
