INTRODUCTION

Yunus Creative Lab, Inc. (YCL) is a non-profit entity founded by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Founder of Grameen Bank, and Father of Micro Credit Prof. Muhammad Yunus.  YCL’s primary focus is “Working Towards a Poverty-Free, Peaceful, Sustainable World”.  We believe it is crucial to involve the younger generation in solving the social problems. Prof. Yunus also intends to use YCL to promote social businesses that solve social problems in a sustainable way.

 

The organization’s first major undertaking is providing leadership and hosting the 2015 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Atlanta. Prof. Yunus was instrumental in bringing this prestigious event to the City of Atlanta.  We expect all iving Nobel Peace Laureates and thousands of other global leaders to join us in Atlanta, as well as over 25,000 youth participants.  YCL intends to make the Summit the biggest international event for Atlanta since the 1996 Olympics.

 

YCL, the City of Atlanta, and many other organizations and high profile individuals have started working on various aspects of 2015 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Atlanta to make it a grand success.  We are currently recruiting interns who will help plan the summit.  Interns will also be able to work on special projects approved by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Muhammad Yunus.

 

All selected interns who will work with YCL will receive training in their respective work areas.  Interns will also have the following opportunities:

            Receive leadership and management training

            Receive entrepreneurship training from highly successful entrepreneurs

            Receive guidance and support to develop a business plan to solve a social problem

            Attend a retreat with Prof. Muhammad Yunus

            Attend all Host Committee Meetings

Each of the interns will be assigned two member of the Summit Host Committee as mentors.

Meet with industry leaders in their respective work areas

Meet with national and global leaders

Freedom to create new program ideas for YCL for competitive evaluations

Earn stipend for exceptional performance (Guidelines will be provided after joining)

The Yunus Creative Lab, Inc. is currently offering internship opportunities for candidates who are entrepreneurial and ready to demonstrate their superior work and capabilities.

Internship Details

Internships are offered in the spring, summer, and fall semesters.

 

Internship Sessions

Fall (late August–early December): Application Deadline June 15

Spring (mid-January– early May):   Application Deadline October 15

Summer (mid May– mid August):   Application Deadline – Open until filled

 

All opportunities are located in Mid-town Atlanta, GA

Fall and Spring internships are 15 week long

Summer internships are 10 to 12 week long

All internships are 20 to 40 hours a week with occasional nights and weekends

A few stipends are available

 

Eligibility

Interested in and passionate about making the world a better place

Strong interest in one or more of the areas of works by Nobel Peace Laureates

A high achiever with positive attitude and humility

Authorized to work for any U.S. based employer upon graduation

Must be currently matriculating within an undergraduate or graduate degree program and scheduled to graduate within 12 months of the internship from a reputed college or university.

Recent Graduates who have graduated within 24 months of starting the internship are also eligible to apply

Minimum GPA requirement: 3.3 on a 4.0 Scale

A self-starter and ability to work independently when needed

One page resume

A 300 – 350 word essay stating your objectives and expectations of a YCL internship and how they relate to your goals.

A 100-word autobiography.

A five page long pertinent writing sample. This can be a paper that you have previously written. Double-spaced is preferred.

Full names, titles, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers of two people who will write letters of recommendation on your behalf.  They will be contacted after the initial screening.

Internship Area Details

 

Summit and Events Management

Interns will be able to work with some of the best conference and event planners in the country and take independent responsibilities as well joint collaborations in organizing events including but not limited to conferences, media events, and social events to meet YCL objectives. The YCL Events Office will also provide leadership in helping various organizations and groups to get ready for the 2015 Summit.  Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following four areas:

Background in the hospitality industry (catering, hotel, or conference centers), marketing, or management

Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Attention to detail, appreciation of critical path and thorough follow-through is important

Ability to take initiatives and work as a member of the team

 

Development

The Office of Development/Fundraising supports YCL programs by generating project-specific financial and in-kind resources from, foundations, corporations, individuals, and other sources.  The interns will have the opportunity to work with some of the best fundraisers and staff.  Interns will assist staff in researching potential funding prospects and initiates relationships through letters, proposals, phone calls, and meetings. Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following areas:

 

Detail-oriented, excellent time management

Experience in grant writing and fundraising with nonprofit organizations

Excellent writing and editing skills

Excellent research capability

Proficiency with Access or another contact database

Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment

Research and technical writing skills

Extensive experience with Internet resources and electronic databases

 

 Social Media and Web Design

Interns will be able to work with some of the best public relations, social media, and web development experts who are already working with YCL. Candidates for this category must submit samples of their social media and website designs. Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following four areas:

Highly organized, efficient work style

Strong interest and expertise in social media activities and strategy

Familiar with social media strategy and content

Excellent expertise in multimedia web design

 

Video Editing and Film Making

Interns will be able to take independent responsibilities as well joint collaborations in capturing video footage and producing short clips for the YCL and the Summit. In addition, the interns will be able to participate and learn from the professional documentary film maker teams. Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following two areas:

Advanced video shooting experience

Excellent video editing experience with major software

 

Creative Writing

Interns will be able to take independent responsibilities as well joint collaborations in creative writing for all the documents for YCL and the Nobel Peace Summit. Candidates must have proven superior skills in the following two areas:

Advanced research and creative writing

Strong proofreading

Preference will be given to candidates with superior technical writing skills.

 

Graphic Design and Art

Interns will be able to take independent responsibilities as well joint collaborations in designing promotional materials and posters for the YCL and the Summit. The interns will also receive opportunities to collaborate with some of the world’s best artists and designers. Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following  three areas:

Advanced graphic art design experience

Ability to create new and duplicate artworks

Ability to design brochures

Program Management

The interns will work closely with the YCL leadership to ensure that all programs are in line with their targets. Candidates who are interested in careers in public policy, nonprofit management and/or international affairs are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following four areas:

Excellent writing and computer skills

A strong academic record

Creative, organized, and flexible

Interest in the work of the programs of YCL

Ability to complete projects on time

Ability to work under deadline

 

Public Relations

Interns will be able to work with some of the best public relations experts who are already working with YCL. Candidates must have proven superior skills on the following four areas:

Strong interest and experience in journalism or public relations

High organizational skill

Multimedia or photographic experience

Expertise in maintaining databases of photos and media contacts

Ability to draft articles, blogs, press releases, fact sheets, presentations, and other materials

Ability to conducts research on press and program-related issues

Ability to assist with compilation of materials into media kits

Assists with social media strategy and content

 

Non-Profit Accounting

Interns will be able to work with some of the best CPAs who are associated with YCL leadership.  Only accounting graduates with CPA certification are eligible to apply for this position. Candidates must have the following expertise and experience to be considered:

            Ability to pay attention to details

            Experience with non-profit accounting

            Clear understanding of for-profit and non-profit accounting

            Experience with the submission of 990 for non-profit entities

 

Research

The Research interns will assist The YCL leadership to conduct research on a wide range of topics. Candidates who have published articles in the refereed journals will be given preference.  Candidates interested in this position must have expertise in the following areas:

Extensive research experience

Proficiency in one or more statistical packages

Excellent technical writing skills

Ability to do proofreading and editing

Ability to design survey instruments

Ability to design and conduct online surveys

Ability to write reports for various audiences
