The Extreme Scale Systems Center in the Computer Science, and the Computer Science Research Group in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division, at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of high-performance communications middleware, and system software. Major Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be involved in research and development in the area of communication middleware for high-performance computing. In addition, the position will involve algorithm design, software development and implementing communication libraries. The job will require working closely with the semiconductor industry, collaborating with vendors, national laboratories, universities, and playing a leading role in the development of industry standards in this area. The work will require developing near-commercial-strength communication substrates for the HPC community. Our research is related to OpenSHMEM and other PGAS libraries, and low-level communications middleware to better support such environments on future platforms. The candidate should be familiar with at least one of these areas: high-performance networks, resiliency, fault-tolerance, runtime systems, low-level system programming, communication middleware, and how these can support HPC programming models. Additional Job Responsibilities: • Develop low level network communication libraries for large-scale systems that are portable across multiple interconnects. • Conduct research to co-design low-level communication layers that target PGAS libraries or languages, hybrid heterogeneous programming models and hardware interconnects. • Design and implement software layers for file IO, big data, and data analytics applications. • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Qualifications Required: • A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Mathematics is required. • The successful candidate will have a proven record of conducting research and hands on experience in the area of communication middleware for high-performance computing. • Candidates should have strong algorithm design and software development skills, experience with implementing communication libraries • Strong programming skills are required. • This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license. • Candidates must have a proven publication track record. Additional Information: Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
