Qualifications:

This position is a part-time internship not to exceed 30 hours per week under the US Government's Pathways Program (https://www.usajobs.gov/studentsandgrads/) and has the potential to be converted to full-time permanent.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the federal agency charged with enforcing federal wildlife laws, protecting endangered species, managing migratory birds, restoring nationally significant fisheries, conserving and restoring wildlife habitat such as wetlands, helping foreign governments with their international conservation efforts, and distributing hundreds of millions of dollars through the Wildlife Sport Fish and Restoration Program. We are seeking a website manager for our Southeast Regional Office, located in Atlanta, GA. Our current website, http://www.fws.gov/southeast/ requires major revisions. This position is filled with opportunities for creativity and career development, and we are looking for an applicant who is ready to seize those opportunities.

In this position, the applicant will serve as an expert programmer, working with with the Digital Team in the Office of External Affairs and other experts to assist the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Southeast Region as it transitions to a modern website in order to improve visitor experience and public engagement. Working within the Service’s Web Standards, employee must manage and design pages, and he or she must also have a thorough understanding of modern web standards (semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with SQL is a bonus.) The applicant should have a solid understanding of industry best practices including accessibility considerations, 508 compliance, search engine optimization (SEO), web page performance, and using Google Analytics. Employee will be responsible for building dynamic sites that aggregate content from FWS databases and other web services so that changes to the underlying content is automatically reflected in the website. Web design will follow responsive design principles in order to deliver content to a variety of devices and screen sizes.

DUTIES:

o Create and maintain web pages

o Coordinate with social media and digital content developers

o Respond to visitor comments on engagement sites

o Refer questions to appropriate subject matter experts

o Synthesize information for posting to media sites
