We are seeking an individual with these core qualities for the Technology Pipeline Solutions (TPS) team within IT. The TPS team works directly with Monsanto scientists to develop software platforms that enable cutting-edge research and development (R&D) to revolutionize plant breeding and biotechnology. TPS provides a dynamic work environment where you will leverage your education, training, and experience and see your skills and career grow and develop, all towards delivering next-generation scientific breakthroughs in high-throughput R&D platforms.

Responsibilities include:

·         Design, translate, and prioritize system solutions for incorporation into software used by our R&D organizations

·         Understand complex computational and statistical techniques used to develop novel approaches for data analyses

·         Translate and effectively communicate complex concepts to a broad audience

·         Work in a liaison relationship with our multi-functional, multi-crop Technology organization, our research labs, interdisciplinary scientists internal and external to Monsanto, and our information technology organization

·         Partner with the R&D organizations to understand the business drivers, immediate and long-term opportunities, identify systems solutions, and define requirements for software platform development

·         Successfully interact with software developers, technical architects, business analysts, testers and support personnel to develop, deploy and support these solutions

·         Creates and maintain close working relationship with software developers, and tester to ensure product works as intended

·         Creates and maintain close working relationship the product support team and end users to ensure they are able to successfully use the delivered software


Required Skills:

·         PhD or PhD completion in the next 6 months in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field

·         Experience with software development and architecture related to machine learning/artificial intelligence

  • Experience in mathematical optimization and algorithm development related to process improvement

·         Experience with object oriented programming (C/C++, Java)

  • Experience analyzing and presenting complex data and proven problem solving abilities

·         Ability to strategically optimize business processes using process improvement & engineering methodologies

·         Ability to effectively lead and drive change in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, leading & influencing people at varying levels of responsibility. 
  • Ability to work independently and establish necessary internal and external collaborations

·         Strong publication record in leading scientific journals

·         Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills as well as proven problem solving abilities


Desired Skills:

  • Experience applying machine learning algorithms and building predictive models is highly desired (SVMs, Random Forests, etc.)

·         Experience with statistical modeling and data mining

·         Experience working with agricultural/biological scientific data is highly desired

·         Experience with Scientific programming (R, Matlab, Perl etc.)

·         Drive for translating business problems into research initiatives that deliver business value

·         Creativity in defining challenging exploratory projects
