Are you interested in learning how to squeeze the last bit of performance possible out of your applications?  Are you always looking for ways to better utilize CPU, memory, and IO subsystems?  Are you intrigued by some of the largest deployments of server farms on the planet and how they really scale?  As a Performance Automation and Tools Developer Intern you'll be a part of the team responsible for developing the tools, frameworks, and platforms necessary for ensuring Salesforce.com remains the world's most highly performing, scalable, and reliable enterprise cloud computing company in the industry. You’ll work closely with developers to understand our architecture, gather requirements from management and product owners.  Your direct efforts will help us ensure we have the visibility necessary to identify potential areas of performance improvement as well as triage problems when they occur in one of our global production data centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop superbly architected code that will provide the necessary insights into our scalable world class cloud offerings so performance improvements can be made and problems diagnosed rapidly

  • Have an agile, iterative approach to software development, rapidly showing progress and being able to adapt to continual feedback and refinement of requirements

  • Develop tools, automation frameworks, and management platforms that will enable the successful automated validation and optimization of various Salesforce offerings

  • Develop automated reporting mechanisms for test results, provide effective analysis of results, and recommend actions based on those results

  • Work closely with management, product owners, and other developers to understand product requirements and design appropriate test plans to verify features and functional specifications

  • Be fanatical about testing across the entire spectrum: unit, integration, functional, and performance.  Live for automation of these type test harnesses and a huge plus if been a successful player in an agile environment


 

Required Skills:

  • Working towards BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field

  • Hands on exposure via academic, professional, or internship experience with Java

  • Object-oriented programming experience and expertise with modular designs

  • Working knowledge of web-development frameworks including HTML and CSS

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • A self starter with a strong sense of self motivation

Desired Skills:

  • Familiar with Open Source technologies

  • Familiar with database design, scalability, and interaction through SQL

  • Familiar with Big Data challenges and NoSQL solutions like HBase and Hadoop

Internship Program Experience:

During the 12-week internship you will have the opportunity to learn from and network with salesforce.com employees and your peers in the program. You will attend a brief Company orientation and will receive additional training from your team while on the job.  Your learning experience will continue through lunch & learn events with executives, philanthropic and team building events, and networking events for interns and teams in San Francisco.  In addition, you will be matched with a mentor to provide advice and guidance throughout the summer.
