Job Summary: The Technology Development Center (TDC) Summer Associates Program is part of UPMC's formal Summer Associates Program.  This is an 11 week, paid internship program starting at the end of May and ending in mid-August that combines real work experience with networking opportunities.

The TDC identifies, analyzes and develops new solutions to address health care's greatest challenges and strives to create the next generation of health care IT products; they assess new and existing technology investment opportunities to pursue a fresh vision for health care innovation. TDC Summer Associates will be required to work with the management team and senior software engineers to define and deliver software that demonstrates feasibility, performance, utility, and user experience.  The usual activities of the position will include collaborating on the definition of software development efforts, developing code, creating documentation, and deploying a working system.   Implementation tasks could span the gamut of computer software.  The position will require a broad background in computer science, the application of many different programming languages, a complete set of programming/debugging skills, intellectual flexibility, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications: Students must be working on a degree from an accredited university majoring in a field related to information systems management, computer science or computer engineering.  Ideally, students should complete this program between their junior and senior year, however, exceptional sophomores, current seniors, and graduate students will be considered.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and being a hardworking, conscientious, and self-motivated individual are required.  Academic experience in C++, Java, Java Web Services, Ruby on Rails, .Net, XML, JSON objects among other languages is a very desirable skill set.  A cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 is strongly preferred, and preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated leadership ability through their studies, employment, or extracurricular activities.
