Reading On-the-Go
Many mobile devices are actually used while stationary. In this project we examine the use of different display technologies for reading while walking through the environment.
The Gesture and Activity Recognition Toolkit
GART is a user interface toolkit designed to facilitate the creation of applications that utilize gesture recognition. The toolkit provides a high level abstraction to the machine learning algorithms and tools to support the training and recognition process.
Typing with Limited Visual Feedback
In this work we examine the ability to type with limited visual feedback. In a mobile environment, the user may not be able to pay full attention to his mobile device. In a laboratory setting we explored manipulating the visibility of the user's mobile keyboard and display.
Mini-QWERTY Keyboards
The mini-QWERTY keyboard is a common text entry device for several smart phones. In this work we evaluate both novice and expert text entry rates. We also are working on refining an empirical model of mini-QWERTY typing and exploring automatic error correction.
Twiddler
Dual Purpose Speech
Dual-purpose speech is an interaction technique designed to provide a user support during a face-to-face conversation with another individual. We capture portions of the user's conversation and use speech recognition to reduce manual input and provide services to the user.
CFXGA X Server
In an effort to change my wearable over to the Intel Stargate research platform, I created and X server for the IO Data CFXGA compact flash VGA card.
Everyday Use of Wearables
This project was a case study examination of the use of a wearable computer by an expert user. Through this evaluation, we uncovered data showing how the wearable is used in support of conversation and as a memory aid.
KeyMenu
The KeyMenu is a keyboard based menu designed around the Twiddler keyboard.
Mobile Capture for Evaluation
In this project, I developed a system to that could record the interaction a user has with his wearable computer and capture data about his interaction with the environment.
Guided by Voices and West Wind
Guided by Voices is audio based augmented reality game. It utilizes a custom, radio based location system to trigger audio events as the user moves through her environment.
