2CoOL is the successor to the Cool Studio project (http://pbl.cc.gatech.edu:8080/cases.1) with Craig Zimring, Sabir Kahn, David Craig, and Saif ul-Haq. The idea is to use Web-based collaboration spaces to augment the Architecture Design Studio. Cool Studio was awarded a 1999 Design Research Award by Architecture Magazine and a 1999 Education Honor Award by the American Institute of Architects.

2CoOL is funded by Vice-Provost Bob McMath's Al West Technology Fund. It's to be the collaboration space for a new class integrating Construction, Industrial Design, and Architecture students. Colleen Kehoe has joined the original members of the Cool Studio Team for this project.

The site is available at http://herring.cc.gatech.edu:8080/2cool/.

In Fall Semester 1999, students used the 2CoOL site to:

  • create a personal page for themselves
  • turn in their weekly homework assignments
  • get updates about class activities and deadlines
  • organize into teams and sign up for research topics
  • participate in debates on topics related to design
  • get help on various issues
  • put together and submit their final research reports
  • communicate with other students

The site will be used again in Spring 2000 to support the ongoing activities of the class.
