Postdoc Opening

We are seeking applicants for Postdoctoral Researcher for a project focused on Interactive Machine Learning agents. We seek to understand how an automated system can partner with a human to learn how to act and reason about a new domain. This is a newly funded project in the Science of Autonomy program of the Office of Naval Research (PIs include: Andrea Thomaz, Charles Isbell, Mark Riedl, and Karen Feigh).

The approach and underlying principles for the project are aligned with our prior work in this area, for representative examples see the following recent publications:

The specific nature of the project involves design and implementation of algorithms for software agents, and evaluation of systems with end-users. Accordingly, candidates should have a strong background in building AI and/or Machine Learning agents. Excellent written and spoken English skills are essential.

The PIs are deeply committed to a strong mentoring relationship with our lab group and creating a fun, exciting, and productive work environment. In addition to technical areas associated with the research project, successful applicants can expect to gain experience in grant writing, student supervision, and project management, as well as presentations to our sponsors at ONR.

Interested applicants should send a CV describing their background, skill set and career goals, along with any other relevant information to Prof. Andrea L. Thomaz.

The position is open immediately and applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
