While there have been a lot of work in social robots, we feel that the two projects closest to our own are the robot-teaching project at MIT (done with the Leonardo robot) and the clicker-training project done by Kaplan at Sony (using the Sony AIBO). Leonardo: The Leonardo robot, developed at MIT, was an attempt to combine robot task learning with a human teacher. Leo tried to learn tasks and was aided by a human instructor in the process (Thomaz and Breazel 2008).
Kaplan: Another approach to robot learning was undertaken by Kaplan et. al on the AIBO robot, which used an approach similar to dog clicker training in order to teach the robot how to do certain tricks (Kaplan 2001).
