A blond-haired guy with a ponytail

Peter Budny

I am a Ph.D. student in the College of Computing at Georgia Tech working with Karsten Schwan.

Research and Interests

I work in our systems lab, the Center for Experimental Research in Computer Systems (CERCS).

Currently, I am working to build a SOA benchmark: a simulation of a many-tiered system for use in research projects.

You can read more about my current and past research.

My interests are Systems and related disciplines. Systems involves both operating systems and middleware, so in the end it is inherently cross-disciplinary: projects may involve computer architecture, kernels, networking, AI, and other fields.

Bio

I graduated from Tech in Spring 2006 with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Japanese language. I found a job with Karsten Schwan which was a sort of internship–research assistantship. My work was a project with Worldspan, an airline fare search provider, converting 13GB of flat-file data into something database-accessible, in order to cut down on lossage when updating the data and enable other interesting features to be built.

I have a list of subjects I've studied at the graduate and undergraduate level.

Here is my schedule which lists known regular engagements.

Personal

Aside from work and school, I'm actively involved in Tech's vocal music program. I've been in the Glee Club for some 12 13 semesters, and have traveled with them to Hawaiʻi, Carnegie Hall, and the United Kingdom.

I like Emacs.

I can converse in Japanese, and visit the country periodically. I have a favorite city. Atlanta has good Japanese food.
私は日本語で会話できて、時々観光者として日本に行きます。好きなシティがあります。アトランタにはうまい日本食を見付けられます。

Beer is tasty, but lots of beer is even better.

I own a digital SLR camera, which spends a lot of time in its bag. I try to practice photography when I can, but don't get around to it often.

Building your own DVR has many benefits.

I risk life and limb riding a scooter.
