Mission
Research by the BORG is focused on enabling large-scale physical
multiagent systems, (including humans, robots and other automated
systems), to collaborate effectively in dynamic, noisy and unknown
environments. We are especially interested in the problems associated
with making the most effective use of sensors distributed among
collaborating agents.
The BORG
The BORG The concepts popularized by "the Borg" of Star Trek
fame fictionalize many aspects of our research that we hope to make
real -- don't worry though, we won't use our research for sinister
purposes. Some of these concepts include: collective intelligence,
whereby individuals using only local rules can combine to provide a
more comprehensive intelligence; distributed sensing, whereby the
observations of many individuals are fused to build an accurate model
of the world; and human augmentation through wearable computers and
sensors.
