I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Human-Centered Computing program at the Georgia Institute of Technology. My advisor is Professor Elizabeth Mynatt. My research focuses on designing systems for individuals who are trying to realize personal health and wellness goals. I am specifically investigating how self-monitoring, as well as strategies based on increasing self-efficacy, can improve the likelihood of goal achievement. The system I have developed, called Salud!, supports individuals and their facilitators (e.g. personal trainers, nutritionists, physicians, etc.) in selecting and managing appropriate goals through tracking and analysis of self-collected data. This is the second year that Salud! is deployed as part of the GT Biggest Loser competition being run by the Georgia Institute of Technology Fitness Program (G.I.T. FIT).
I am also CTO at Usable Health, a technology start-up based out of Georgia Tech. Usable Health makes smartmenus, which are touchscreen self-service ordering terminals for restaurants that allow patrons to quickly order meals based on their personal health goals. As of December 2011, our smartmenus process almost five hundred orders per day at more than ten restaurants in the South East.
In 2005, I received a B.S. in Computer Science from Cornell University.
