Haiti Google Earth Layer

This is Google earth layer displaying the most recent reports of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. Information is gathered from http://haiti.ushahidi.com/.

The Layer contains the most recent 48h of information and is updated every minute.

There are two versions available, one for offline and one for online use.

Online, auto-update version

This file requires constant internet connection! The information is updated every 5 min.

Instructions:

• Download: haiti_autoupdate.kml. (Right click -> Save Link As...)
• Make sure the file ending is KML and not XML or TXT as some browsers will default to.
• Open haiti_autoupdate.kml in Google Earth.
• Click on "Haiti incidents" under Places
• You will see a small spinning ball and after a short period the network link is established and you will get automatically updates.

Offline version

This version works without internet connection, but requires manual updates.

The download link below is updated every minute and contains the most recent information at the time of the download

Instructions:

• Download: haiti_incidents.kml (Right click -> Save Link As...)
• Make sure the file ending is KML and not XML or TXT as some browsers will default to.
• Open haiti_incidents.kml in Google Earth.
• Click on "haiti_incidents.kml" under Places
• You will see the incidents overlayed on top of the map.

Notes

Refresh your browser and clear the cache! Some browsers might not pull the most recent data but simply use the one in the cache that was downloaded before.

The highlighted region of interest corresponds to the coordinates:
NW Point: 18°45'26.57"N 74°30'18.22"W
NE Point: 18°34'59.53"N 72°21'36.93"W
SE Point: 18° 4'10.13"N 72°25'31.17"W
SW Point: 17°58'53.35"N 74°29'16.75"W
