Dear ICSE 2001 PC Member, The deadline for abstracts for the paper submissions for ICSE 2001 has past. It is now time to start the bidding process, and begin to prepare for the reviewing process and the PC meeting in San Diego on November 11 and 12. We would like to summarize the logistics of these steps and give you the information needed to have a productive and successful meeting. PLEASE SEE THE END OF THIS MESSAGE FOR A SUMMARY OF IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES. The first thing for you to do is to bookmark the address: http://witanweb.iit.nrc.ca/icse2001/#PCMem. This link will be your interface to the WitanWeb paper reviewing system that we will be using. You should have already received e-mail about registration into the system; if you have not received such an e-mail, let us know immediately. The bidding process will begin tomorrow, August 17 and bids will be accepted until August 25. The firm paper submission deadline is August 28. Submissions are being accepted electronically, although we expect some to be submitted as hard copy. During the week of August 28, we will meet in Paderborn to assign papers to reviewers. This assignment will take into account your interests as much as possible, but please understand the need for flexibility. By September 2, you will receive your assignments. Because the submissions are electronic, you will be able to immediately print and start reviewing the papers. Your reviews will be collected electronically, and we encourage you to provide them as you complete them. The deadline for all reviews is October 23. Please schedule reviewing time on your calendar so that you will be able to meet this deadline. As the reviews come in, we will read them to determine if any additonal reviews are necessary. If so, we will get the needed reviews. Some time in advance of the PC meeting, we will meet to prepare for the PC meeting. In particular, we will decide the order in which the papers will be discussed at the meeting. Note that we will not be discussing the papers in the order of "best to worst" or vice versa. Experience has shown that different orders work better. All of you have agreed to attend and participate in the PC meeting. Past experience has shown that attendance at the meeting is essential because the reviews of absent PC members are largely ignored. If your situation has changed and you are certain that you will be unable to attend the meeting, please let us know now. If you do not attend the meeting, you will be listed as outside reviewer, not a PC member. The PC meeting will require two full days --- please do not plan to leave the meeting before 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 12. You can find information about travel and hotel arrangements on the FSE 2000 web site at http://www.cs.virginia.edu/fse8/. Here is a summary of the important dates and deadlines: August 14: Deadline for paper abstracts August 25: Deadline for bidding for papers (indicating interest, declaring conflicts, etc.) September 2: Beginning of the paper review period October 23: Deadline for all reviews (firm) November 11: PC meeting 9AM to 6PM (note: full day) Thanks for your support. If you have any suggestions, let us know. Mary Jean and Wilhelm
