I joined Georgia Tech's School of Computer Science in 2007 as an assistant professor. I received my Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. I was a member of the HPS Research Group at the University of Texas at Austin. Before that I worked as a researcher at Hyundai Motor Company Research Center between 1998-2000 to develop next-generation engine designs. I was an intern at Intel Corporation during the summers of 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006, working on problems in computer architecture and hardware/software interaction.

Research:

  • My research interests include high-performance energy-efficient computer architectures, programmer-compiler-architecture interaction, low-power high-performance embedded processors, and compiler and hardware support for dynamic optimizations, virtual machines, and binary instrumentation.
  • Dissertation: Adaptive Predication via Compiler-Microarchitecture Cooperation
  • My main research areas (including links to selected papers):
    • Compiler/Hardware support for heterogeneous architectures
    • Adaptive and energy-efficient predication via compiler/microarchitecture cooperation
    • Efficient code profiling techniques to predict input-set dependency of program behavior and enable high-performance predicated execution
    • Energy-efficient techniques to tolerate memory latency and reduce memory bandwidth consumption
    • Using wrong-path execution to improve processor performance and efficiency
    • Hardware support to improve the performance of managed and object oriented languages and virtual machines
      • Efficient indirect branch prediction techniques [ISCA 2007]
      • Indirect branch predication techniques [IEEE-CAL 2007][ASPLOS 2008]
      • Program phase detection and analysis
    • Power-efficient processors
      • Performance-aware pipeline gating [HPCA 2008]
      • Limited out-of-order execution processors
  • Publications (full list)
