Over the recent years, the
computer graphic industry has shown a sharp
increase in occupational ergonomic disorders
such as RSI(Repetitive Strain Injuries).
Considering the nature of computer graphic
designers to be highly specialized, the
loss of employees can directly bring negative
impact on the production process.
Therefore the growing number of RSI problem has emerged as a threat. This study
proposes means to protect computer graphic industry from further loss of valuable
human resources due to RSI.
The study contains two main parts:
1) Identifying the causality of RSI related
to a computer graphic
designer.
2) Proposing solutions to reduce the risk of having RSI by developing
an effective
alert system.
The first part of the study probes the risk factors of developing
RSI in designers' work behaviors/work patterns. The study will be
conducted via paper surveys and observations including video/audio media and
photographs.
The second part of the study suggests the development of a computer
applet that will be used to intervene where computer graphic designers' work
habits lead to encountering situations that can result in RSI. The main purpose
of this system is to alert the limit level of tolerance of designers and to
guide them to take proper breaks.
Defining the causality of RSI on computer graphic designers proves the basis
to extract solutions to prevent the development of RSI. The prevent ive systemwill
provide effective method of reducing the risk
of computer graphic designers to develop RSI. |
