2nd Annual Computer Architects' Ice Hockey Game
June 19th, 9:40pm-11:40pm
Hockey Town USA, Saugus, MA

About

Last year in Madison, WI, a group of computer architects got together and had a great time playing a friendly game of ice hockey. We're doing it again this year in Boston, MA! We hope to see you out on the ice!

Bus Info

The bus will be leaving the Park Plaza hotel at 8:30pm. Please have your equipment loaded on to the bus prior to departure. Spectators are welcome! (Subject to availability of seats on the bus, but we probably won't run out. Be aware that the bus will not return until we're done, most likely after midnight.)

Details

The hockey game will be held at Hockey Town USA. Our icetime is from 9:40pm-11:40pm on Monday, June 19th, 2006. We will be providing bus transportation from the Boston Park Plaza hotel and back for both players and hecklers spectators. We plan on having the bus leave from the hotel at 8:30pm, which provides a full hour between the scheduled end of the SIGARCH/TCCA meeting and departure. The first 20 minutes or so of ice time will be allocated for warm-up to get your legs reacquainted with the ice if you haven't been skating in a while.

Volunteers?

We could use a scorekeeper and one or more photographers. If you're interested, talk to Gabe.

Cost

The total cost will just be for the ice time, which will work out to approximately $15 per person. David Kaeli is providing the bus (thank him when you see him at the conference).

We Need Sponsors! (It's not too late.)

Last year, the ice hockey game had a strong turn-out from conference attendees and was the topic of much discussion beyond the regular computer architecture topics. If your company is looking for an opportunity to sponsor a highly-visible event, please get in contact with us. We are looking for full or partial sponsors to cover the expenses for the ice rink, bus transportation, and possibly jerseys (which could proudly display your corporate logo!).

Rules

The 2006 Computer Architecture Ice Hockey game will be a friendly, no-check ice hockey game open to computer architects (fee to be determined). This is an opportunity to rub elbows with friends and colleagues with a common interest. Participants should be able to skate (and stop), but need not be experienced hockey players. Participants must wear protective equipment (helmet, gloves, shin guards, and cup/pelvic protector at the minimum; full pads are strongly recommended). We will use a regular (hard) puck, but slap shots are restricted (permitted only if there is no one between you and the goalie, since not everyone has full pads). No body-checking is allowed at any time.
