We had another fantastic ISCA ice hockey game this year in Texas! (Yes, there are ice rinks down there!) Check out the link to the photos from this year below. We will be taking 2010 off as ISCA will be held in France, but we will hopefully organize another friendly match with our Theory colleagues at FCRC in 2011.

About

For three years running (with a hiatus for ISCA 2008 in Beijing), we've gotten a group of computer architects together and have had a great time playing friendly games of ice hockey.

We hope to see you out on the ice!

Volunteers?

We've got one photographer lined up, but if you're interested you're always welcome. If someone wants to run the scoreboard, that's also a pretty easy job. If you're interested, please send an email to Gabe. A referee would be nice as well.

Fans, Spectators, Hecklers

ISCA attendees are welcome to come watch, heckle, cheer and/or buy us beer afterwards! It's gonna be hot in Austin in June, and so why not hang out in the air-conditioned comfort of an ice rink? Sources indicate that you're welcome to pick up a pitcher or two from the bar and bring it over the bleachers to have some refreshment while you watch. If you're interested in attending, either just show up, or email Gabe if you need assistance with transportation.

Rink Info and Directions

We'll be playing at the I35 location of Chaparral Ice Rink. Chaparral has two locations, do NOT go to the Northcross rink. We'll try to arrange for a bus to take us from the conference hotel to the rink and back, and if that doesn't pan out then we'll organize a carpool.

If you're going to drive yourself, do not trust the default directions given to you by Google Maps, as their address for the rink is not correct. Instead, use this version: http://tinyurl.com/qv9bcv. Just basically head north of I-35, take the Wells Branch Pkwy/FM-1825 exit, loop back underneath the freeway and head south on the Frontage/Service road and the rink will be on your right (just after IHOP and Whataburger).

We Need Sponsors!

We've had three highly successful ice hockey games so far. If your company is looking for an opportunity to sponsor a highly-visible event, please get in contact with us. We are looking for full or partial sponsors to cover the expenses for the ice rink, transportation, and/or jerseys (which could proudly display your corporate logo!).

    Rules

The Computer Architecture Ice Hockey games are friendly, no-check ice hockey games open to computer architects. This is an opportunity to rub elbows with friends and colleagues with a common interest. Participants should be able to skate (and stop), but need not be experienced hockey players. Participants must wear full gear; please contact Gabe if you need any loaner equipment and we'll see what we can do (no guarantees). You may be required by the rink to sign a waiver. We will use a regular (hard) puck. No body-checking is allowed at any time.

Much of the text above has been adapted from Adam Butts' page for "The First (Annual?) ISCA Hockey Game".
