The motivation for
my research is the plethora of information made available by the advancement
of technology. The popularity of the Web, faster and more powerful processors,
and more sophisticated operating systems have resulted in more information
being accessible to everyday individuals. Furthermore, output devices
have not kept up with this giant leap of information--most individuals
still tend to use the 17" CRT monitors they were using several years
ago.
Although research
such as Duke Hutchings',
my labmate, focuses on window management and multiple displays -- a recent
"hot topic" in the Human-Computer Interaction community), I
am interested in developing new ways to represent information in effective
manners, such as via peripheral displays. It is my goal to develop technologies
that assist everyday individuals in managing the flood of information
that is now made available. I am also interested in developing evaluation
techniques for existing peripheral displays to develop design strategies.
