I joined the College of Computing in Fall 2001. From 1995-2001 I worked at
Compaq's Cambridge Research Laboratory
(CRL) in Cambridge, MA, where I led a research project on vision-based human
sensing. I recently co-organized the First IEEE International Workshop on Projector-Camera
Systems (PROCAMS 2003) and Models
Versus Exemplars in Computer Vision in 2001. I was guest editor of the July
2003 special issue of IEEE PAMI on
Graphical
Models in Computer Vision. I am currently on the editorial board of the
International Journal of Computer Vision. I am the Courses Chair for ICCV 05
in Beijing, China. My research interests include
computer vision, machine learning, computer graphics, HCI, and computer systems.
Research Projects
- Rare Event Detection - Fast on-line learning of cascade
classifiers. Applications include visual object detection and recognition and
network intrusion detection.
- Motion Capture from Movies - How can we unlock the
vast corpus of existing video footage (movies, sports broadcasts, etc.)
and learn useful models of human movement and behavior?
- Audio-visual Sensing of Activities - Use of microphone and camera
arrays for sensing and learning models of human activity. Primary focus is
activity recognition in the Aware Home.
- Boosting Bayesian networks - Bayesian
networks have proven to be a useful tool in representing complex probability
distributions. How can we use them to build effective classifers?
- Projected Light Displays - How can we
build flexible, interactive wall-sized displays using LCD projectors and
cameras? video
- Machine Learning for Software Engineering - Active learning methods
for modeling software behavior from measurements of program execution.
My publications are available for
download.
