If wishes were horses…

But, wishes, thank Heaven, were never horses

Lest the worthless would gallop mad

To destinations without center or sphere,

To heights suicidal.

Wishes, thank God, are never granted easy

Else mankind would forsake striving

To realize dreams rosy.

A wish one would guess

Must of need, be true and selfless.

If one rides it with conviction-

That springs from pure consciousness

And sustains on perseverance,

Realizes itself with effortless ease.
