In-A-Gadda-Da-Oswald is a semi-regular feature on my weekly radio program, Nocturnal Transmissions. It is a live music mix featuring three simultaneous (and slightly out of sync) recordings of Iron Butterfly's immortal garage-rock anthem (especially the drum solo!) plus recordings of police radio announcements and press reporters during and immediately following JFK's assassination, techno tracks by Baby Ford, numerous poems written about JFK and his death read by the poets, and a couple of tracks from Brian Eno's Nerve Net release. You can almost taste the Dallas air...

One afternoon, I was eating lunch and surfin' the web when I came across the historic picture by photographer Bob Jackson of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald. Jackson's camera certainly caught that rare moment in time; the grey area between certainty and unreality. Jack Ruby was in a posture that spoke of conviction and drive and there was something in Oswald's face; a look of passion that's hard to duplicate. It struck me that he was certainly screamin' the blues, in fact, he looked to me like a young rock and roller beltin' out a serious tune. Uh, oh...the Photoshop bug bit me and, 40 minutes later, the picture below was born.
