The College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Chair of the School of Computer Science.
The College of Computing, established in 1990, is recognized for its leadership in Research and in Education (undergraduate Threads and multiple Online Masters). The graduate program is currently ranked 8th nationally by U.S. News & World Report as well as 8th in the world by The Times Higher Education World University Ranking. The College consists of three schools that provide specialized and general computing education to the entire campus. The College is part of the Georgia Institute of Technology, which is a unit of the University System of the State of Georgia and is primarily located in the heart of Atlanta, GA.
The School of Computer Science offers, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. It currently has 176 Ph.D. students, 38 academic faculty, several of whom have an endowed chair, and several Postdocs, Research Faculty, Adjunct Faculty, and professional classified staff. Primary research foci include Computer Architecture, Databases, Information Security, Programming Languages and Compilers, Networks, Software Engineering, Systems, and Theory. The School received $36M in research funding during the last academic year. It includes several centers (Algorithms and Randomness Center, Center for Research into Novel Computing Hierarchies) and is affiliated with two Institute-level Interdisciplinary Research Institutes (Institute for Data Engineering and Science, Institute for Information Security & Privacy).
The ideal candidate will: Have a Doctorate in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Be a Full Professor with tenure in a premier department at a research university; Have a proven record of achieving external visibility and funding; Have demonstrated strong leadership and team building skills; Care about the personal and educational enrichment of faculty, staff, and students; Have experience with strategic planning, administrative oversight; fiscal management, and vision development; and Embrace participative management and open decision-making.
