Dear GT Computing Colleagues,
I’d like to start this week with some celebration news.
Normally in the spring, we hold a banquet to acknowledge the student, faculty, and staff winners of our annual College Awards. The banquet is not going to happen as it normally would, for obvious reasons. But the celebration will go on. The College has created a web site about this year’s winners, and will be promoting them over social media for the next couple of weeks.
It is important that we celebrate our award winners, whether they are students, faculty, or staff. In the College of Computing, we set high standards for ourselves, no matter what our role. Our award winners have reached and even exceeded those standards. We honor them not only for their own accomplishments, but because they reflect the excellence that we all strive for together every day. Please join me in congratulating these highest of our high achievers as we share who they are.
Speaking of students, the College will be holding virtual Dean’s New Alumni Ceremonies for our undergraduate and graduate students on May 18 and 19. These will not replace commencement. I expect our graduating students to return to campus for an in-person ceremony sometime later. Yet, we cannot let our graduates get out without celebrating their accomplishments in some way.
So please join me over the next several weeks as we celebrate our community, and remember: there’s a party goin’ on right here.
