From the Dean's Desk - April 3, 2020

Dear GT Computing colleagues,

Georgia Tech Dean of Computing Charles Isbell

I know you all saw the announcement yesterday that Georgia Tech and all the other USG institutions will be conducting the summer semester online.

That decision has kicked off a new phase of problem-solving for everyone. There’s not a lot more I can say at the moment because we’re waiting for some more key decisions to be made. I will share information as I am able.

One of the questions I’ve heard a lot in the wake of this announcement is whether summer online implies something about when we will return to campus. Those decisions are independent of one another, actually. The important thing is that no one is eager to rush anyone back to campus before it’s safe, but safe depends on facts on the ground that we do not yet know. Again as we know more, I’ll let you know.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that the OneUSG Time & Absence tile exists, and probably even works, so it’s okay to use it. Please remember you can take vacation days even when we’re all working from home. We are very busy, and we’re trying to do a bunch of new things all at once. I am proud of all we’ve accomplished, but we won’t make it through if we push ourselves into burnout. So… don’t do that.

Speaking of which, please enjoy a safe, restful weekend.

Peace.
