From the Dean's Desk - Oct. 6, 2020

Dear GT Computing community,

Georgia Tech Dean of Computing Charles Isbell

There’s a lot of Georgia Tech going on out there. I don’t know if you watched 60 Minutes this week, but if you did you saw the work of one of our alumni, Maithilee Kunda (Ph.D. ’13). Dr. Kunda is currently a faculty member at Vanderbilt University, where she works on issues around autism, cognition, and employment. She is one of many wonderful examples of one of our own who is using computing to impact the lives of others in ways both big and small.

Speaking of names worth dropping, our own Rich DeMillo just appeared  on WABE’s A Closer Look on Monday. Rich focused on society’s expanding need for cybersecurity, and on the new School of Cybersecurity and Privacy’s plans for closing the gap. I suspect many of you would enjoy giving it a listen.

Finally, I’d like to remind everyone that we have opened our search for a new Associate Dean for Off-Campus and Special Initiatives. This AD will be involved with:

  • College-level strategic planning, development, and coordination of new international, cross-disciplinary, off-campus, and online or distance-based academic programs;
  • Structuring and negotiating appropriate agreements on behalf of the College; and otherwise acting as the College’s liaison and representative for such initiatives.

The new AD will oversee operations that directly affect multiple school and college activities and initiatives. They will supervise the creation of current and future study-abroad programs, and may participate in the creation of other multidisciplinary academic programs. The AD will be expected to consult with various constituents both internal and external to Georgia Tech on our global focus.

Anyone who is interested in this position on the College’s leadership team should send a CV and a cover letter to Marcus Johnson by October 9 (that is, the end of this week). I look forward to seeing your application.

In the meantime, enjoy yourselves everyone.
