Can virtual characters improvise open-ended, physically-embodied, interactions with people in real-time using objects within their environment? Find out on the main stage of the Robot Improv Circus, where you can play the Props game with your robot partner. Dazzle the robot audience and mime hilarious actions by pretending that each abstract mystery prop is a recognizable, real-world object. This research project investigates real-time decision-making in open-ended (very large) decision-spaces without a single clear goal using knowledge learned from observing and interacting with people.
Data analysis novices often encounter barriers in executing low-level operations for pairwise comparisons. They may also run into barriers in interpreting the artefacts (e.g., visualizations) created as a result of the operations. We developed Duet, a visual analysis system designed to help data analysis novices conduct pairwise comparisons by addressing execution and interpretation barriers. To reduce the barriers in executing low-level operations during pairwise comparison, Duet employs minimal specification: when one object group (i.e.
Immersive technology's advances pose new risks for user safety and privacy, from risks associated with recorded movements to risks from how virtual environments track user behaviors. Through this research, we hope to examine the challenges of protecting human rights in an emerging paradigm of immersive technology, focusing on novel approaches to guarding data privacy, freedom of speech, and bodily autonomy.
