This is a multi-disciplinary research project to explore how to design content for augmented environments. The research effort is a collaboration between students and researchers in Media Studies (from the School of Language, Communication and Culture) and in Computer Science/Human-Computer Interaction (from the College of Computing).
We believe that compelling, non-trivial content will be vital to the success of augmented reality and that revolutionary, rather than incremental, progress toward understanding AR content, and the software architectures to support them, can be made by having multi-disciplinary groups of students and researchers from Design (who are concerned with design issues such as interpretive conventions and narrative forms), and Computing (who will be building the AR interface technology) collaborate on common projects. We believe these multi-disciplinary projects can lead to revolutionary advances in understanding AR user-interface design that would be impossible by either community in isolation.
