With his famous platic pedestal tables and
chairs, Eero Saarinen strove for a design of
visual and material unity. While the materials
are not actually of a single, unified piece-the
base had to be made of cast aluminum in order
to support the chair - the visual effect is one of
harmony and simplicity.
