Chair
Plywood, ebonized finish

Designed by Charles Eames (1907-1978),
ca. 1945-47

Gift of Mr. Alan S. Lenowitz, 1984.378

In 1941, Charles Eames began making furniture out
of plywood, which allowed chair seats and backs to be
molded into graceful shapes. Metal legs later replaced
the wooden legs of this early model. However, the wooden
legs seem to be a key to the unity of the design.
