Slab
Walnut, southern yellow pine
Athens, Georgia, ca. 1790-1810

Gift of Mrs. Virginia Campbell
Courts, 1977.1000.5

This sideboard, used for serving food
and storing utensils, cutlery, and linens,
was made in Athens, Georgia. It is a
rural adaptation of an urban high-style
model. The curved apron contrasts
with the overall rectangular form and
relates to the New York City sideboards
design of straight and curved lines.
The verticality is characteristic of
early-nineteenth-century Georgia furniture.
