Ulysses Davis was a Savannah barber who
created hundreds of wood sculptures from
discarded shipyard lumber. His subjects
included religious characters, mythological
beasts, portraits of famous historical
figures from Ben Franklin and the U.S.
presidents to Martin Luther King, Jr., and
a series of African kings and queens.
