Since the mid-1980s, Edward Serotta has traveled
to eastern Europe to record the survivors of the
Jewish communities decimated by the Holocaust
and Communist oppression. He has said, "I grew
up [as a Jew ] in the American South in the '50s,
so I know what it means to be an outsider."
