Yasuo Kuniyoshi
American, born in Japan, 1893-1953

Abandoned Treasures, 1945-46
Oil on canvas

Purchase with Henry B. Scott Fund, 1957.60
A guitar, a magnifying glass, a torn bag, a watch,
a piece of paper, and a moth in a jar are Yasuo
Kuniyoshi’s abandoned treasures. Made just after
World War II, this forlorn still life reflects life’s
fragility and the grim realities of the war.
