WHITEBOARDING

Whiteboarding is a class session in which students organize information they've gathered at each stage of a design challenge. The product of the sesion is a poster, software document, journal page, or transparency that serves as a public record of what is known from the beginning of the investigations, and the changes to that knowledge base. Throughout the investigations, the class will see early questions answered, early assertions challenged, new questions asked, and gradually, a body of knowledge developed. The questions that are on the board often provide a springboard for a specific round of investigations. Thus, the whiteboard changes over time and provides a common record of previous and current states of knowledge, as well as a place to record the micro- and macro-goals of the challenge.
