Who's this "PyroDude" person anyway?!

The answer to that question, friend, is a long and sordid affair, marked with danger, intrigue, and sex with numerous beautiful women... or so I wished. In fact, it's sort of boring really.... it goes something like this:

[IMAGE: Me] First off, my real name (sans-the overabundance of middle names which I possess) is Dane Chin Loy, (that's me over there, 43k) and I seemed to have committed myself to a mental institution for roughly four years. I'm currently a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which we students "lovingly" refer to as GeorgiaTech. We're not a very creative bunch, are we?

I've been going to GeorgiaTech for three years now in a quest to obtain my bachelor's degree in computer science. Most of my time is taken up in that particular quest, but I seem to leave myself ample time to goof off as well. But really, computers are not only my job, but my hobby as well, so most of my free time is almost indistinguishable from when I'm working. I live for bits of metal etched on polished sand... scary, isn't it? And by the way, I'm NOT a programmer... I'm a software engineer. (That way I can have some sort of reason for being at a "technical school".) Currently, I'm also working at the GeorgiaTech Research Institute (GTRI) doing all sorts of things. Supposedly I'm here to "do what needs to be done". In actuality, I work for a variety of government agencies, doing highly secret, nifty, and expensive things that I can't tell you about (or I'd have to shoot you and your modem/network card).

And so here I am, wasting time doing this kind of stuff. I hang out here, take classes, work, and burn bandwidth. My major hobby (as already elaborated on) is computers... hardware and software. My other major hobbies are all described in gory detail in my home page (I mean, that's what it's for). As for minor hobbies... well, they change as often as the weather and range freely across the wide plains of human knowledge. They have included model rocketry, remote control car racing, role playing games, writing (short stories, poetry, and even novels, although I've never finished one of those), video games, playing pool, etc etc. Ohh... and of course... surfing the net.

My interests include almost anything that has to do with technology (I'm a technojunkie)... and I've always been fascinated by anything dealing with flying (air and/or space). I listen to all kinds of music, from classical to alternative, but I tend to run middle of the line, and I have yet to find any country music I like. And yes, I like 80's music. (My current "favorite CD"... defined as the one that sits in the CD player and I listen to over and over without ever changing it... is _Bubblegum_Crisis_Vocal_Collection_1_.) I'm also an avid sci-fi/fantasy (why do they always group those together?) reader, although I hardly get enough time these days... not to mention books are so darned expensive. Among the author's I like to read are Anne McCaffrey (see my homepage), Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, J.R.R. Tolkein, Terry Pratchett, Piers Anthony, Harry Harrison, and the list goes on and on (read as: I got more, but can't remember them offhand). Other interests, like my minor hobbies, fluctuate wildly.

I prefer Coke over Pepsi, but Mountain Dew over Coke (or anything). I like coffee with sugar and no cream, and don't like tea. I'm not overly fond of ice cream (that one usually gets me some strange looks), and I really don't go much for desserts as a general rule. Glazed donuts and hot chocolate are all around favorites of mine... and I firmly believe a marshmallow's place is in the aforementioned hot chocolate. I love orange juice and apple juice, but don't really like oranges or apples. Reese's peanut butter cups are wonderful, even though they contain no real peanut butter (or cups for that matter). I like snow, but hate the cold. I hate people who use umbrella's when it's just "misting" (the type of rain which is ultra-light, moves horizontally, and never actually gets ON an umbrella). When I'm in the mood I like playing mind games (ie: playing with OTHER people's minds), and a bit of high-speed, off-the-wall word association is fun too. I dislike those tissues with lotion in them, and I like Gary Larson's _The_Far_Side_. And finally I believe in the "Magic Smoke"... and if you have no idea what that is, talk to some computer science or electrical engineering types. If you feel you need to know more, feel free to fill out a questionnaire in triplicate, and fax it to your local plant food salesman.
